Kentucky’s Amazing Government

Kentucky’s Amazing Government is a publication about Kentucky’s state and local government structures, developed for use in eighth-grade social studies classes.

Kentucky’s Amazing Government is the KCAA’s public service project, initiated in 1996. We developed the publication because we noticed a void in information available to students about state and local government. As participants in many branches of government, county attorneys know the importance of knowledge about these areas and felt it was their duty to provide materials to help teach our youth. Kentucky’s Amazing Government includes the following:

  • Information on Kentucky’s government and its relationship to local and federal governments;
  • A historical context of how Kentucky became a state;
  • Explanation of Kentucky’s executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government;
  • Participatory activities, such as conducting mock trials and setting up a General Assembly in the classroom to see first-hand how a bill becomes a law; and
  • A mixture of multiple-choice and essay questions after each section.

The materials are in the form of a tabloid-size newspaper–something students will be able to take home and share with their parents. The materials are provided free of charge from your local county attorney and the Kentucky County Attorneys Association.
